PGMI STUDENTS JOIN THE 2018 JENESYS PROGRAM IN JAPAN

Since Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University was declared to be attending World Class University, many students began participating in international-level activities. This time, two 2015 PGMI students, Eko Suhadinata and Dea Amelia Harits, were selected to represent Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University in the Peace Building Exchange Program organized by JENESYS (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths) and JICE (Japan International Cooperation Center). The Japanese government is funding this effort. Eko and Dea were chosen along with 25 other JENESYS participants, including seven students from Syarif Hidayahtullah State Islamic University Jakarta, Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University Malang, Antasari State Islamic University Banjarmasin, and Mataram State Islamic University Lombok, nine from the Nadhatul Ulama Organization, and nine from the Muhammadiyah Organization.

JENESYS is a project that promotes East Asian unity and collaboration. The Japanese government intends to launch the JENESYS initiative by encouraging young people and students to visit Japan. This program is held in Indonesia under the supervision of JICE. This program aims to establish a solid foundation for developing close cooperation relationships among the nation's next generation of youth, who will play an important role in East Asian countries in the future.

During the eight-day trip to Japan, participants were separated into groups and toured several prefectures. The activity included:

  • Visits (museums, traditional food, local government, tours).
  • Interaction with Japanese youth through discussions at the university.
  • Seeing and experiencing Japanese culture directly through Homestay, which became the adopted parents of each participant.
